DDC Law is founded and led by Derek Cook, a West Texas trial lawyer known for his courtroom tenacity, ethical advocacy, and deep commitment to his community. Born and raised in Wichita Falls, Derek’s passion for the law began early — watching reruns of Matlock with his grandfather sparked a lifelong desire to stand up for others in the courtroom. After earning his bachelor’s degree in History with a Pre-Law focus from UT Arlington (magna cum laude), Derek graduated from Baylor Law School in 2011, where he honed his litigation skills in the school’s rigorous Practice Court program and served as an editor for the Baylor Law Review.
Based in Midland, Texas, DDC Law represents clients in complex civil litigation across the Permian Basin, including oil and gas disputes, commercial conflicts, personal injury, debt collection, and appeals. Derek has tried and won high-stakes jury trials across West Texas, including a $1.9 million verdict involving conversion and gross negligence, and has successfully defended energy companies and businesses in both trial and appellate courts.
In addition to his legal practice, Derek has held leadership roles with the Midland County Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, and the Midland Teen Court. A dedicated advocate for mental health and recovery in the legal profession, Derek openly shares his personal journey and has been recognized with numerous awards for his pro bono work and community service. He frequently lectures on legal topics and has published in respected outlets like Texas Lawyer Magazine, Texas Bar Journal, and The Advocate.
